King Kamehameha, also known as Kamehameha the Great, was born at Kohala in the late 18th century on the big island of Hawaiʻi. Foretold by prophecy, story has it that a light in the sky with feathers like a bird would signal the birth of a great chief. As a young warrior, Kamehameha displayed extraordinary prowess on the battlefield and political acumen, quickly rising through the ranks of Hawaiian society to become a chief of unparalleled stature. Little is known about his early years, but legends speak of his exceptional strength and intelligence, traits that would serve him well in the tumultuous years to come

Each year, Hawaii pays homage to King Kamehameha through various cultural celebrations and festivities. The annual King Kamehameha Day, observed on June 11th, commemorates his contributions to the Hawaiian kingdom and serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of this visionary leader. This year marks the 152nd anniversary of King Kamehameha Day. For us, at Scott Hawaii, we’ve been celebrating King Kamehameha since we started calling Hawaii home, 92 years ago. Hawaii is a place we love and we continue to honor and embrace. Kamehameha remains the bedrock of the peoples of Hawaii’s identity, pride and ongoing guidance, bridging our past with the present.
